Putting up at Drablow’s place, he begins to see haunting figures. He learns of the sad story of Alice, when she was unable to save her son from drowning to death. Set on revenge, her evil spirit slays every child that she sets her eyes on. Arthur tries to puts her soul to rest, and despite of the warnings from villagers, he buries the remains of Alice’s son besides her grave. The young Arthur Kipps is a lawyer who has a son but has to leave him in London as he takes on to a journey to the village of her lately departed client, Alice Drablow. He is here to clear up the legal formalities but he finds out that there are mysterious and horrendous incidents taking place in this village. These turn of events have led the parents of the children, who are on the target of this spiteful dark force to, protect them by confining them in their house. Arthur, while staying in the house of Drablows’ take notice of the voices of suffering children and witness the gruesome sight of victimized children strolling around the marshes. With time he only discovers these dead children were killed on the same date and by the same assassin. Later, he discovers that these cruelties are adorned by the Woman in Black, who is a ghost of a woman who couldn’t prevent her son, Nathaniel, from drowning and now her reprisal has invoked an evil form that whenever she is spotted, a child dies.
